552 posts · Joined 2013. #1 · Apr 25, 2017. Hey all, My father in law has a 2002 Wrangler with the 4.0 and he keeps getting the cylinder one misfire code and have issues losing power and stalling. I have tried to help him to the best of my ability but I live in a different city so I couldn't spend much time with it.So my 2015 Wrangler JKU Sahara with about 55k on it had the CEL go on and off a couple times (on for a few days, then off for awhile, then on, etc.) for finally staying on. I checked the code and got the common P0302 cylinder 2 misfire although the engine had felt like it was running perfectly. I had the engine light come on and after reading the code, it said cylinder 2 misfire. My buddy told me to replace the plugs and coil that should get rid of the code. I replaced all the plugs and put on a new coil for that cylinder only. The Jeep runs great, starts well and at idle it's smooth.Then we took a 4 hour road trip. Only an inch or two - but look closely on any V engine and you can see how spark plug 1 is FWD. Then down the line is 3 and 5 (7, 9, 11). I did already get the left cylinder head replaced under the warranty but it has come back and they even double checked everything and claim it looks good. Pull tP0301: This reveals a misfire in Cylinder 1. P0302: Specific to a m Misfire cylinder 1 p0301 code. Replaced plug and wire, ran. better, then again threw code. Replaced coil pack, runs better and not throwing code. But, hear ticking near cylinder 1 by alternator when cold, stops after a minute or so. Only runs rough after warmed up. So I have a 2006 Tj with the 2.4l and it is throwing a misfire at idle. It has 140k. So Far I have done the valve cover gasket, intake manifold gasket new IAC and TPS swapped injectors. All new plugs and wires and a coil for good measure.
