Dec 7, 2008 · step on brake, shift into park. while brake pedal still pressed, set parking brake. when ready to leave, release parking brake while foot brake is pressed. keep brake pedal pressed until shifted out of park. i'm just guessing that you never use your parking brake and wondering if it is the park pawl getting stuck. :dunno:Yes, I tried "search". '05, 2.5, automatic. Dash Panel Indicator light ( P R N D 3 2 ) operation is intermittent. Looked at the dash today and all I see is the backlit yellow box where I should see the Letter/Digit. Once in awhile the "D" illuminates. Neutral, Reverse and Park selected and no indication on the dash.

Many Nissan dealers and independent transmission shops will not touch a CVT; they'll just recommend a replacement which is very expensive. Look for a shop that's willing to repair your CVT.Turn your Mountaineer's engine on. Then, rock the vehicle with your foot off the brake. Press the brake down when you have rocked uphill. You want to "catch" it with the brake at the right time. This will take pressure off of the parking lock. Apply light pressure to the shifter when doing this.Depress the clutch pedal all the way and look for neutral on the gear stick halfway between third and fourth gear. The gear shift will move all the way to the left (over to first gear) and all the way to the right when the vehicle is in neutral. When a gear is selected, the gear stick will move very little left or right.It can also be caused by a malfunctioning shifter interlock or a brake switch's failure, which can easily be repaired. So I finally found a fix for my issue. It seems that the issue is that Nissan uses an Omron SS-01 switch rated at 100 mA to operate a Park Solenoid that draws 500 mA. In order to fix it you have to buy the whole shift assembly which is a dealer only part for ($450 + tax).
