If you plan on enchanting and have enchanting potions to use, don't use riften, even if you are looking straight down over the table it often bugs and you end up sat upstairs in a chair, wastes about 10 seconds of your potion of enchants. I saved and reloaded the game countless times before speaking to the Jarl and becoming Thane and still have never gotten the Blade of the Rift, always some stupid ice sword or something.
